I didn’t know that being an engineer was special or different- I just did it because I love it! I only realised recently that people think this way- everything single man made object around you is designed by engineers- why are we struggling to get more people studying it??

Hi Lucy – I didn’t know much about engineering when i studied it. I wanted to be different, but then i always wanted to make a difference. Engineering proved to be a great way of doing just that 🙂

      Hello Lucy,

I was never under the impression that engineering was different. A lot of my friends at college went on to study engineering.
Becoming an engineer interested me massively from a young age. My interest did waver a bit whilst I was studying but it soon came back and I think I’m even more interested in engineering now than I ever have been!

No one else in my year was going to study engineering – so I was rather a different career choice!
Having said that though, I chose my career based on what I wanted to do – it was challenging at times to find information – but that made me more interested and more determined!

The truth is that I did it because I liked maths and science at school and I couldn’t choose which to study at university – engineering sounded like the best way to keep studying them all.

I don’t think it’s different – just one of many career choices that you could consider.

      Rory
