• Question: Haw do the relly tol bildings stay up

      Aha- well by the power of engineering! We do sketches, calculations and made computer models of the buildings and make sure that the columns and beams are all strong enough to stand up against wind and other weights.
      It’s good fun 🙂

      I would say an awful lot of material (steel, concrete etc.) is used! All designed and checked by a skilled engineer like Roma.

      They stay up because structural engineers design it to hold the weight of all the people and use strong materials to make sure it stays up even during high winds.

      There are a lot of other considerations to be made when making sure a building will stay up. The everyday, ‘normal’ use of the building but also what happens if there is an extreme event. Things like how fires, storms and earthquakes will affect the building also have to be thought about. There are engineers who, like Roma, specialise in all these things.

      Lots of studying to see what’s going to impact on them once they’re up! Drawings, diagrams and equations too no doubt!
