• Question: is your aim to win an award to be top engineer as i hope you do

      Loving all your questions so far! Well done and keep them coming…

      My aim is to save as much energy as possible and hope to help people to change their behaviours at home to become less wasteful. Not all of this is complex engineering, most of it is common sense. Switching off lights when you leave a room, managing your heating times, switching off equipment when not in use, recycling more… if everyone just did a little bit we’d make a big difference together!

      Thanks for your question – and for the kind though!

      My main aim at the moment is to make sure that if we were to have a massive blackout across the country – it wouldn’t be long-term and everything would be back on as soon as possible.
      That’s quite a challenging aim as there’s so much going on with where our electricity comes from, how it’s transmitted around the country, and how we use the electricity at the end of it. I think I need to catch up with Jaz for some hints and tips on this last one!

      Hello!
      I’ve won a few awards now 😉 I apply for awards so that I get to meet lots of different people and to show other people that different types of people can be successful in engineering!

      Overall though my aim is to design amazing buildings that are safe and people love living and working in!

      This probably isn’t the answer you are looking for but…

      I get more satisfaction from knowing that I’ve done a good job than getting awards for it. Praise from my colleagues is much more valuable to me as it builds my reputation.

      Although I got an award from our Chief Executive last year for masterminding a way to save the company over £1,000,000 a year from reducing our electricity bills (there seems to be a trend occurring here) which was pretty cool.
      We got this saving without needing to change how much power we used but on how much electricity we have available to us and by taking part in something called C2C…feel free to ask for more information

      Hey Katherine,

      Winning awards is great but as an engineer every day is full of rewards! Most of these are quite small like seeing your own idea begin put into practice or solving a new problem or understanding how something works but all tougher these add up to a very satisfying career!

      At work, we have recently found a new way to help fire fighters stop forest fires. It is very rewarding to know that I have helped to make they jobs safer while at the same time protecting the environment.
