Question: What can you bring to the global community as an engineer?

Engineers in the global community have a huge part to play as role-models but also in sharing of technology and research to benefit all.
Personally I think I can share what I do, and how excited I get by what I do – more people talking about science and engineering careers means that more young people find out all their options and can work towards a job that suits them best!

Everything! All man-made objects are designed by engineers. Medicine, food, clothes, homes, computers etc would not exist without us.

Hello,
My job as an engineer brings so much to the community. My work helps keep clean, fresh drinking flowing out of the taps and helps to make sure sewage is treated to ever increasing standards.
Improving sewage treatment is key to helping our marine wildlife prosper – there are engineers all over the world doing this.

By saving energy for a big company i make a big difference and help meet UK targets. The projects that i do in Debenhams are shared with our international stores so the work i do reaches out across the globe.

As an engineer there are loads of ways to contribute to the global community – some of them quite unusual. For example, the work of one of my colleagues has been used by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change to help assess the causes of global warming. It is a small but important thing to be able to contribute.
Personally, being able to understand how fires start and grow will allow people to build safer buildings and reduce the damage caused by fire.
