• Question: what is the weirdest thing that you have done in your carrier

      Hi Chris,

      Hard question to answer.
      Its hard because a lot of the strange things I do are now just the normal things.
      I once entered the Haweswater Aqueduct to inspect an overflow pipe. All that seperated me and a flow of water of 500,000,000 litres per day was a concrete wall that could overflow. I’m not sure it was overly wierd but definately unusual.

      Another strange occurence was when my boss and me walked out of a restaurant without paying whilst in Switzerland but that’s another story!

      I went to a big site where all sainsburys food waste was collected. I was shocked at just how much waste there was and how much it smelt… this food then got put into an large digester ( a bit like a giant stomach) all the gas that was released from the process was used to generate electricity which powered the sainsburys down the road…

      so sainsburys waste was powering the store!

      Probably searching for a recipe to make artificial poop. We learned that NASA had done a lot of work to make fake poop so they could test toilets in space. Another weird are of engineering!!

      The recipe used miso past (from Japanese cooking) and peanut oil with bits of cotton wool in it. It was kind of gross but it was also really interesting to see who we can engineer poop. When we burned it, it smelled of roasted peanuts. Much nicer than expected!

      Weirdest for me was the M&S photoshoot! I’ve never done a fashion shoot before, so it was very weird standing with pop stars and other tv celebrities and being photographed…

      I’m with the others – a few of the things I do now seem completely normal!

      An example would be cutting through a dead 275kV underground cable to arrange new supplies to a subsation site. I knew the cable was dead, I’d checked it, a colleague had checked it and our control had checked it – but taht moment with a hacksaw in hand – definately wierd!
