• Question: What subjects would be advised to take if you want to be an engineer?

      Maths, Science and Technology are all good subjects that will prepare you for a career in engineering 🙂

      Hi,
      I’d agree with Jaz but doth forget that engineering is a creative subject too so the technical things are important but if you like other subjects like art or music these can be excellent compliments to the technical stuff!

      I’m with Jaz and Rory. Maths and science will stand you in good stead.

      It’s worth remembering that different types of engineering will look for different skills and subjects though.

      If you are interested in a certain type of engineering let us know and we could probably give you some guidance 🙂

      Hi

      The most important ones that you need to become an engineer are maths and physics. There are certain engineering careers, such as chemical engineering, that will require you to have studied chemistry. Other helpful subjects, but are not essential, are Art and design and technology, as we spend a lot of time looking at drawings it is useful to be able to communicate through sketches. However, if you enjoy other subjects such as History or languages, there is no reason to drop those and it is good to have a bit of variation in your studies. Essentially, to be able to study engineering after school I would say maths, physics and then any other subject of your choosing.

      I’m with everyone else here – you don’t have to be great at the subjects but if you work hard and are interested in them then that is a great motivation.
      Most importantly, you’ve got to enjoy what you do – engineerning may not be for you, but I’d recommend you look at it!
