  I don’t think they will for road transport. Rover tried this back in the 50’s, the engine used was very noisey!
  
  Ineterestingly in aircraft the jet engine is undoubtetly top dog but in recent years new ‘turbo props’ have been developed that increase the efficiency of planes using more standard piston type engines.

  i agree with mark, i think they will be too noisy, big and fast!!!

  I’m with the other two!
  Sometimes a good engineering solution doesn’t work in a ‘human’ setting – there’s so many things to take into account when engineering items for people – things like too much noise can really put the brakes (!) on an idea in development!

  Yup! The others nailed it. Did you know that they use jet engines on oil rigs? Not to make them fly but to supply the electricity!
